4: The Warning Signs of Counterfeit Origins

Posted on June 23, 2011 at 11:50 PM Comments comments (0)

The problem with being faced with the warning signs that something is fundamentally wrong with a belief – any belief – is that we tend to not want to know. If we’re passionate, or just comfortable, with a belief, we probably don’t want to change. So, we tend to overlook the warning signs, or dismiss them if someone points them out to us. So, it is vitally important to understand that we aren’t just dealing with a meaningless, purposeless human race that is stuck with not really being able to know the truth about anything. We’re not dealing with flesh and blood. We’re dealing with demons. Ephesians 6:12 As we proceed through the various topics that we’ll cover, many will be faced with irresolvable problems in cherished beliefs. With some topics in life, it might not be very important, but the topics that we’ll cover couldn’t be more important. I want to urge everyone to unite on the level playing field of the statement that I’ve made several times: we have a common enemy, and it isn’t each other. When we’re dealing with the doctrines of demons, we dare not ignore the warning signs, and the purpose of this series is to provide a place for us all to pull together and expose the works of the enemy, not do battle against each other. The ugly reality is that we all have to be prepared to think the unthinkable when it comes to testing all things against the strategy of Satan.

The theory of evolution has changed our culture radically in the past 150 years. It has replaced the former foundation of our culture – The Bible - by replacing the foundation of the scriptures themselves. The true foundation is that:

  • God created the Heavens, the Earth, and us
  • He loves us
  • As our Father He wants only good for us, and

  • He makes the rules within the reality of the fact that He doesn’t just have love, but that He IS love.

Since evolution began replacing the foundation of our culture, we’ve been building a new culture on something backwards. As a result of doing that for 150 years, we now have a culture that is backwards. Men are marrying men and women are marrying women, we’re hugging trees and killing unborn babies, and by removing the Ten Commandments from our courts and schools our legislation declares that instead of man’s laws being subject to God’s laws, God’s laws are subject to man’s laws. (Big mistake! BIG MISTAKE! God will still judge us - and our laws - by His laws.) It isn’t necessary to know all about evolutionary biology in order to know that evolution can’t have happened and didn’t, and to be able to refute it. All that we need is the right facts, common sense, and the willingness to think for ourselves. As Bob Dylan put it on his Christian album, Slow Train Coming, “Don’t put my faith in nobody; not even a scientist.”

To find the weak spots in any false belief, we all need to look at what people (including ourselves) actually say and/or do. We say what we say because of what we believe, and if our words are confused, then something that we believe is at the root of it. The same applies to what we do. The relevance of that obvious fact will become increasingly clear in later topics, but the examples of our new backwards culture in the previous paragraph ought to set off some alarms in our minds, too.

The warning signs that Satan has counterfeited a particular truth may fall into dozens of subcategories, but, as I keep repeating (trust me – there is method to my madness), I’ve noticed that they all seem to fall into one of three main categories: critical factors that are left out, contradictions that can’t be resolved, and circular arguments.

a. Critical Factors that are Left Out

Did you know that DNA is a language that stores masses of information? It has been calculated that, if a person’s DNA were printed on paper and bound in books, the books would fill the Grand Canyon 78 times. Evolution theory teaches that, given enough time, the mindless, brainless atoms could accidentally arrange themselves into all of that information, guided of course by mindless, brainless, impersonal natural processes. Realistically, the chance of that happening is so close to zero that it doesn’t even count, but since it “could happen”, identifying the real problem with accidental information requires digging a bit deeper. To do that, we just need to ask sensible questions. For instance, “What exactly is a language, anyway?”

And that’s where the cracks start to show. For instance, if by a complete fluke, chance random processes arranged the letters C, A, and T in a row, you’d have a word: CAT. But it’s only a word if it’s a part of a language in the first place, because some intelligent being wanted to be able to identify that particular creature with a sound. Intelligent information has to exist first in order for a language to be needed and developed. For the sake of discussion, if people named the animal “CAT” without a language to record the sound in, then the intelligence used to make up that name in the first place could also be used to create a way of writing it down and retrieving it later on. An alphabet would be created and the three needed letters with particular sounds would intentionally be lined up in the right order to create the combined sound that identifies that animal. If the curved, straight, and angled lines that comprise each of those separate letters happened in nature by chance before someone had created the English language, would anybody care? They’d just be lines. They wouldn’t have sounds associated with them as separate characters, let alone a meaningful sound when they were lined up by accident in the correct order. Obviously we can discover a new species of animal, or make a new invention, and use our existing language to come up with a name. However, that isn’t the point. This summary sentence is a mouthful just for the word “CAT”, but we can also apply it to the fact that DNA is a language:

Intelligent information has to already exist for a language to be needed at all, and the language is created to store the information so that it can be retrieved whenever it is needed.

The critical factor that is left out is that a language is created to store intelligent information that already exists. Information isn’t stored while creating a language. That’s how it would have had to have happened if the language had evolved by accident. But that’s backwards. And as I’ve said, if you start with something backwards, you’ll end with something backwards. The evidence of life’s origin - in order for life on Earth to exist at all - points to an Intelligence having instructions that needed to be stored permanently and then extracted when needed. So, that intelligence created a language perfectly suited to the purpose and wrote the information in that language in the nucleus of every living cell.

b. Contradictions that Can’t be Resolved

Did you know that the scientific process known as carbon dating – used to date fossils and rocks - doesn’t give dates of millions of years? That particular dating method only gives dates of thousands of years. There are four dating methods, and the other three give dates of millions of years.

Basically, what happens is this. There is a substance called carbon 14. It’s an unstable substance, and is in our atmosphere. Plants absorb it, and animals eat the plants, or eat other animals that eat the plants. We humans eat both, too. Carbon 14 decays over time and becomes regular carbon (carbon 12). That process takes thousands of years, and is believed to be measurable (given a bunch of assumptions). So, when a living thing dies, the unstable carbon stops being replaced. Whatever is there will eventually decay until it is all carbon 12. The decay of carbon 14 can be measured and the time of death determined (thousands of years ago).

In one of the other dating methods, potassium decays into argon. That takes millions of years. Well, the bottom line is, carbon dating doesn’t work. None of the dating methods do. Dr. Andrew Snelling, a Geologist and lecturer for Answers in Genesis, broke a rock containing a fossil into four pieces and sent one piece to each of the four best labs in America. Each lab specialized in one of the four dating methods. Dr. Snelling simply asked the people at each lab to please tell him how old the sample was. The four results of this blind test were different by millions of years. If the methods worked, the results would have been the same.

However, that irresolvable contradiction isn’t the most important fact to be extracted from the test results. Carbon 14 is found in animals and plants that died thousands of years ago, and does take thousands of years to decay. But the sample was taken from a layer of the Earth believed to have been laid down millions of years ago. The contradiction that can’t be resolved and therefore becomes a critical factor that changes everything (and has to be left out because there’s no way to explain it) is this: the presence of carbon 14 proves that the layer wasn’t laid down millions of years ago, but was actually laid down thousands of years ago.

c. Circular Arguments

Given the fact that the dating methods don’t work, how do we age such things? Well, we know how old the layers are by which fossils we find in them.

Don’t believe me? Fair enough. Here is a quote from a science publication:

"....fossils have been and still are the best and most accurate method of dating and correlating the rocks in which they occur .... I can think of no cases of radioactive decay being used to date fossils.", New Scientist, Nov.10, p.425, 1982

Notice something in the quote. The fossils date the rock layers, but radioactive decay isn’t used to date the fossils. So, common sense should then cause us to logically ask, “How do we know how old the fossils are?” That’s very simple. We know how old the fossils are by the rock layers that we find them in. That’s right. We age the rock layers by the fossils, but we age the fossils by the rock layers. That is a circular argument. In other words, using that method, we don’t know how old anything is!

Don’t believe me? Fair enough. Here are some more quotes from science publications.

"It cannot be denied that from a strictly philosophical standpoint geologists are here arguing in a circle. The succession of organisms has been determined by a study of their remains embedded in the rocks, and the relative ages of the rocks are determined by the organisms that they contain." Encyclopedia Britannia, Vol.X, p.168

"The rocks do date the fossils, but the fossils date the rocks more accurately. Stratigraphy cannot avoid this kind of reasoning, if it insists on using only temporal concepts, because circularity is inherent in the derivation of time scales.", American Journal of Science, Vol. 276, p.51

Did he say, "The rocks do date the fossils, but the fossils date the rocks more accurately.”? How dumb is that! That’s how clever the Adversary is. He can get highly educated, very intelligent people to publish such statements. This is what some of our finest minds are educating us with.

Satan is a real entity. As I keep saying, we have a common enemy and it isn’t each other. The Bible tells us that we are transformed into Christ likeness by the renewing of our minds. Romans 12:2 Obviously, we can count on Satan – the great counterfeiter - to try to claim us in the same way. Scripture also says that God is not the author of confusion. With that said, guess who is! (C’mon Church Lady.) The issue of origins is one of the most important subjects for us to understand, and on that subject we are being fed a steady diet of confusion from the science establishment. There are long lists of problems with Darwin’s theory. I’ve only mentioned a few of them. He was aware of many of them 150 years ago, and because of those problems, for 20 years he refused to publish his theory. And over time the list of problems has grown to the point that, if Darwin were true to his word and alive today, he would agree that his theory had failed. I highly recommend spending time online getting a free education on the topic. Wonderful ministries such as Answers in Genesis and Creation Science Evangelism are great resources.

See. No need for a PHD. All that we needed were the right facts, common sense, and the willingness to think for ourselves. But now that we’ve clearly seen many very serious warning signs that something has to be wrong with the belief, we need to dig deeper and figure out what it is about evolution theory which dazzles us so much that we don’t think critically about Darwinism, but end up trying to defend it. Beyond that is the reversed foundation. Stay tuned.

3: The Day I Saw a Demon

Posted on May 18, 2011 at 12:00 AM Comments comments (1)

At the close of part 2, I said:

“People have a common enemy, and it isn’t each other. Knowing Satan’s strategy should unite us, regardless of what beliefs we have to abandon in the process.”

We will examine some very widely accepted teachings as we move forward, but first I want to make it clear how real the Adversary is.

2 Kings 6:15-17 has a remarkable story:

“When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh, my lord, what shall we do?” the servant asked.  “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”

We’re accustomed to interacting with the world around us through our five physical senses: sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing. Plainly, there is more to life than what we can physically see, feel, taste, smell, and hear. Our Creator, if He so chooses, is able to do something with our physical eyes that can allow us to see the unseen world of angels and demons.

A similar example occurred at the Tower of Babel. In an instant, God rewired - not the eyes - but the brains of everyone in the world: out with the old language that everyone spoke, and in with a bunch of new ones that had never been spoken before. Nobody could remember their old language (probably the only one ever spoken) or had to study and learn their new language. Think how hard it is to learn a new language? What an astonishing event took place at the Tower of Babel.

The Holy Spirit is that close to each one of us. How intimately we are known, and how close He is, even when we’re in a place of rebellion. How astounding it would be to have such a radical, life altering encounter with the unseen world.

Such things do still happen today. I know, because I had such an encounter. I didn’t see a beautiful angel. I didn’t speak in a new language. In fact, I didn’t say a word. You probably wouldn’t have either. I saw a fallen angel: a demon. And I wasn’t alone.

I was actually in a church, oddly enough. (Don’t be too surprised. Satan already has the world. The church is his prime target.) I had interviewed one of the elders of that particular church several weeks earlier for a college project I was working on: a video presentation about (ironically enough) people who care. He seemed like a nice enough man; quietly spoken, not a threatening type at all. However, on one particular morning when he was standing before the church body, as I stood among a packed congregation, suddenly, it happened. His face physically changed. It was a peculiar phenomenon, because he still looked like himself. Yet his countenance also resembled the kind of creature that is sometimes seen in medieval paintings: evil spirits; demons. It makes me wonder what some of those artists had seen.

Please don’t misunderstand me. He hadn’t sprouted horns. He wasn’t suddenly dressed in red spandex. He didn’t have a pitch fork and a pointed tail. Yet his face looked so completely different, and so chillingly evil, that the presence of an occult entity was clearly responsible for the transformation. He actually looked like a demon. Do you think it was just my imagination? Could I have been hallucinating? Please, stay with me. There’s more.

A family that I spent a lot of time with back then was sitting in another part of the church. I went to their house for lunch after the service, and without meaning to, walked in on a conversation between the lady of the house and her daughter. The daughter was clearly astonished. She was trying to make sense of something that had happened to her that morning in church. She was describing to her mother exactly what I had seen; the same man, and the evil that had control of him which was reflected in his face. She asked in a tone of voice that most people would have if they’d suddenly found themselves face to face with a demon, “He wasn’t like that a week ago. What happened to him? What changed?”

Her mother wasn’t derailed by the question at all. On the contrary! She said, “Actually, he’s been like that for a long time. He hasn’t changed. You have!

Evidently, so had I. I was still just a baby Christian. Not long before that, I’d been an atheist. Yet God chose to open my eyes and allow me to have that life altering encounter with an entity from the occult world. I had no idea that decades later I’d be writing about the strategy of Satan, but God plainly did.

It seemed that few people had had their eyes opened to see the unseen evil entity to which the elder had submitted, but God had opened the eyes of the girl’s mother weeks beforehand. As far as she knew, nobody else had seen what God had revealed to her. So, she took the wise route of praying and trusting God to bring those around her to the place where He would open their eyes, too.

A more important question than, “What happened to him?” is, “How did it happen to him?” We are caught in the crossfire of a supernatural war between Christ and His angels, and Satan and his demons. That is life on Earth. If we believers continue to dig our heels in on what we think the Bible does say, and throw Bible verses at each other in an effort to prove our points, these foul creatures will continue to succeed in dividing us. They are real, they are organized, and they have a strategy that is so sinister in its simplicity that dividing us is effortless. And, divided – WE FALL! We need to test everything and hold onto the good, not only by trying to determine what the Bible does say, but also by doing the other half of the job: compare beliefs to the strategy of the adversary to eliminate from our options what the Bible can’t possibly say, and therefore doesn’t say. So, if I may, please let me say this again:

“People have a common enemy, and it isn’t each other. Knowing Satan’s strategy should unite us, regardless of what beliefs we have to abandon in the process.”

We must search diligently for occurrences of the pattern that the Adversary used in the Garden of Eden. The unmasking process usually starts by noticing the warning signs that something must be backwards at the foundation:

  • Circular arguments
  • Critical factors that change everything but are left out, and
  • Contradictions that can’t be resolved.

There is one way in which Satan is very much like God: he is no respecter of persons. So, when we find such warning signs, we must be courageous about it. We should thank our Savior for making us aware that something must be diabolically wrong with the belief – especially if it is one of our own beliefs – and we must continue to ask, seek, and knock until we have unmasked the enemy on that topic. And the more united and supportive we all are in the task, the better.

As I said earlier, we will examine some very widely accepted teachings as we move forward. With that said, it would be best for us to begin with a subject that followers of Christ should mostly be able to agree on, and that subject is origins. Satan’s Simple Strategy has been effectively used to create and implement the Theory of Evolution. The theory isn’t science. It’s a demonic religious doctrine disguised in a lab coat. But before we identify the dazzle factor and dig down to the reversed foundation, looking for the warning signs in that particular counterfeit should be a good starting place for us. We’ll do that next time.

2: The Method

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 11:55 PM Comments comments (0)

“If you want to hide something, leave it in plain sight.” Strange but true, and the Adversary knows it. You’d think that the method used by the Devil himself to create globally accepted counterfeits would be highly complex – an effortless product of his massive intellect. Well, the joke’s on us. Satan’s process for counterfeiting all of the most important things that people should understand is a two step process: reverse the foundation, and dazzle the target audience. If he can do that on any given topic, we’ll do the rest.

As an optional bonus in this submission, the following links open text and video versions of a funny story called Love is a Fallacy. It’s about a cold hearted law student’s blunder of romantic love. Some points made are very relevant.

Reverse the foundation

Every belief system has a foundational fact that the details are built on. E.g.: evolution is built on the idea that the world is millions of years old. If the world isn’t millions of years old, evolution is false. As the law student quoted, “You can't start with a hypothesis that is not true and then draw any supportable conclusions from it.” In other words, if you start with something that isn’t true and build a belief on it, you’ll end with something that isn’t true. That is inevitable. Even worse, since Satan is the opposite of God, he’ll turn the foundation around 180 degrees. So, if you start with something backwards, you’ll end up with a belief that is completely backwards. That’s why the psalmist wrote, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalms 11:3) If the enemy can embed just one foundational lie into popular thinking, people will inevitably build on it a belief that is the opposite of what God says. However, warning signs will naturally follow from this: contradictions, omissions, circular arguments…. For us to overlook the warning signs, he also needs to cause a fundamental change in the way we look at things. Which brings me to…

Dazzle the Target Audience

What I call the dazzle factor. The dazzle factor includes an element of “what’s in it for me?” When presented with an option that looks like it’s from God, and also includes something tempting to us, if we embrace it, we’ll try to defend it. That causes us to think defensively. When we do, we stop thinking critically. Then, if we’ve accepted some “forbidden fruit”, we tend to overlook the inevitable warning signs that always follow.

In Eden, the pattern can be seen clearly.

1: God’s foundation was, “I’m God. If you eat the fruit, you’ll die.”

Satan reversed it: “You won’t die. Eat the fruit. You’ll be like God.”

2: The fruit looked really delicious, and came with the promise of Godly intelligence, “knowing what is good and evil”, plus the lie that they wouldn’t die.

The inevitable confusion followed the fall, not the least of which came from Adam. A Hebrew word study reveals the startling fact that when he said, “The woman that YOU GAVE ME…“, he was blaming God for his sin. God made the woman for Adam, and the woman gave Adam the fruit. So, it was God’s’ fault.

When we see the warning signs, we need to pin down the dazzle factor, dig down to the foundation, and rethink our belief. Be prepared to think the unthinkable.

This series isn’t about what the Bible does say, but rather how to tell what the Bible doesn’t say. By eliminating the beliefs that clearly fit the pattern used in Eden, we can pull together and get a clearer understanding of those teachings that hold up to critical thinking. People have a common enemy, and it isn’t each other. Knowing Satan’s strategy should unite us, regardless of what beliefs we have to abandon in the process. Then, we can be a bride for Christ that compromises less on truth in order to worship in Spirit.

We will examine many widely accepted teachings as we move forward, but first I want to make it clear how real the Adversary is. Next time: The Day I Saw a Demon.

1: The Problem

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 11:54 PM Comments comments (1)

Why is it that there are thousands of different denominations in the Christian church, all with a different interpretation of one book? How is it that someone can get a doctoral degree in some kind of evolutionary biology studies when evolution is a scientific impossibility? Why do well meaning people find themselves at impasses that are so irreconcilable, and that they are so passionate about, that they are willing to end friendships, leave family, divorce, or even kill for their belief. As Church Lady of Saturday Night Live fame would say, “Could it be…SAY-TUHN?”

In the Garden of Eden, there were two human beings. Their minds were clear, and they loved their Creator. Obedience was a natural expression of their love for Him. He gave them one VERY simple instruction. Don’t eat the fruit from one particular tree. They could eat the succulent, delicious fruit of all of the other trees without restriction. They could do anything else that they wanted to do, and they didn’t have sin dwelling in them pulling them in the wrong direction in spite of themselves. (Romans 7:13-20) They were highly intelligent. All that they had to do was to not eat the fruit from that one tree. How easy is that? Yet Satan was cunning enough to get them to do that one simple thing that God told them to not do. And while they were disobeying, they thought everything was fine. (Genesis 3:6) If Satan could do that to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, we’re pretty foolish if we think that he can’t do the same thing to us now – ‘en masse.

The fact that Adam and Eve thought the forbidden fruit was good is the key to understanding the problem: our vulnerability. For people to be able to respond to God’s love for us by loving Him back, He had to give us the ability to choose. Otherwise, we’d just be robots. With the ability to choose comes the inevitable vulnerability. We had to be vulnerable enough to choose to believe that a lie is the truth, or loving our Creator wouldn’t be possible.

Obedience is the ultimate expression of worship. (John 14:15) Satan’s desire is to take God’s place. (Isaiah 14:12-14) To do that, he must secure our worship. However, most people won’t openly worship Satan. Since Satan is completely crazy (there is no truth in him: John 8:44) and knows that his time is short and he’ll never take God’s place, he is evidently willing to have us obey him by our believing that God’s truths are lies and Satan’s lies are the truth. He accepts the outworking of that as worship. (Rev 13:3-4) “See; I REALLY AM like the Most High!” (Isn’t that special!)

Knowing that light and darkness are Bible metaphors for truth and lies, Jesus spoke some chilling words on the subject:

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:22-23)

According to Jesus, we can be completely sure that we are completely right, and be completely wrong. We can be completely sure that we are obeying God, and be obeying Satan. I believe that what the enemy did in the Garden of Eden is so diabolically simple that we don’t notice exactly how he did it. That makes us sitting ducks – all of us. In my next submission, I’ll extract the two simple steps that he uses to make us think that darkness is light, and that everything is OK. That’s how he divides and destroys us.
